Alternative Mindset and The Concept of Job Creation

 People often say that education is the key to success. With education, people will be able to survive life with less difficulty through decent and high-paying jobs. For that reason, parents try their best in giving their children the education they needed. Indeed, it is true that with education, they can have a better future. However, there is something off about what people thinks or to be exact, the usual mindset of people.

            As discussed in our class, the usual mindset of people especially parents is that, children will have to attend school, should strive hard to attain good grades, earn a degree, and have a successful job with a better position. In this case, they need to find a job that would fit their specialties and a company that would offer high-paying jobs. Sad to say, those companies who offer high salary are those outside their place and foreign countries. Now the tendency in this scenario is that, people will grab the opportunity in higher businesses leaving their hometown in a still position. This kind of cycle continued for how many generations until such people with alternative mindset worked on it.

Based on what was said, I have thought that this is really what my parents, and billions of people think. Even myself, I admit that I once thought that maybe going to other places would cause people to earn more money. I closed my mind with these thoughts until we discussed in class, the matters in having an alternative mindset.

Now, what would be the alternative mindset for this? Just like the usual, children will have to attend school, acquire good grades, earn a degree, and have a job. The only difference is when people finish their studies and be gainfully employed. Instead of leaving their places for high paying jobs in other places, why not establish a job in their own place; earn money more than what they get in other places and have a chance to develop their very own hometown. This is what alternative mindset leads people – entrepreneurship. In addition to that, since the modern generation today revolves around technology, why not be an entrepreneur in the field of technology, or as what they call, technopreneurship?

People who enter into new and pioneering ventures are call entrepreneurs. And starting up a new business is called entrepreneurship. On the other hand, technopreneurship is entrepreneurship in the field of technology. In this area, people need to use their whole brain, the left brain for logical thinking and right brain for creative thinking, to have best results. It requires characters such as hard-working, have goals, a risk-taker, and most of all, committed. And the best way to know how to be a competent technopreneur is to gain knowledge in the course model called SEED where it stands forSelf Mastery, Environment Mastery, Enterprise Mastery, and Development of Business Plan.

Through SEED, we can have step by step analysis on how we are going to start with our goals. The first one is self-mastery. In this category, it tests how far we really know ourselves. It’s like, we need to know our selves deeper to know what our passion is and with that passion, we can be able to bring out the best we can be. And as what we have discussed in class, a self-mastered person doesn’t need to have a very high IQ. It just needs high EQ and AQ, and also competency and efficiency to be able to handle the business well. The person has to know its own strengths and weaknesses because through weakness, we can gain our own strength. To sum it up, the first step in everything is to understand thoroughly how we naturally work.

The second one is environment mastery. I have mentioned above that people can establish businesses in their own hometown, but to do that, they must be very familiar with their place. They may already be accustomed in their own places but it is still important to know how people work in certain areas, and the commonly and mostly needs and wants of these people. I think this is an essential part of being an entrepreneur since you have to thoroughly investigate the place to have assurance that what you would establish or develop would appear appealing to people.

The third one is enterprise mastery. In this field, the entrepreneurs would be able to learn how to run a business. They would be able to comprehend how the different management works. Like, in this area, they would start understanding the information of the parts in building enterprises, and after apprehending, they would be able to put it up together.

            Last but not the least is the development of business plan. After knowing and understanding yourself, the environment where you would build your business, and how an enterprise works, it would all be put into action which is the developing the plans. Developing business plan involves writing the business plan, presenting it to people, and defending it to be able to prove how it works, and if approved, adding some refinements to make it perfect. This last step in the course model is a very big step towards the next level because people would now be able to make it real. They would have the chance to establish their thoughts and to be part in job creation.

            Now what is job creation? As what I have read from prnewswire.com, job creation is not about providing jobs but for supporting the ideas that creates job. The said ideas will lead to a real innovation where in these innovations will change the world and could eventually employ the world. It is also stated that entrepreneurs and government go side by side and depends on each other when it comes to this matter. This is because these two acts socially responsible when they have to employ people. Job creation also has different definitions and methods.

            The first one presented is the job creation by government spending/stimulus. In this way, government can stimulate job creation when it invests in projects that improve or create new services. These activities include the releasing of contracts to the private sector for infrastructure, engineering, justice, and many others. Other way in which the government creates jobs is by issuing special grants for privately run programs. These are often for special studies and research. Grant receivers do employ people. However these grants are often connected to special favors called earmarks. These seemingly good gestures destroy independent innovation that is developed by unconnected science communities and can cause discouragement to innovate by others. The government also often decides to grow itself and hires new government employees. Some people argue that the bigger government gets; the more overhead private taxpaying industries must pay to support the costs of government.

            In my point of view, the reason why most ideas are being thrown in trash is because of the lack of support in funds and other matters from the government. There may be projects and ideas which are thoroughly supported but not all are given the chance. This may also the reason why only few technologies are produced by the country. Unlike in Japan and other countries where the people with ideas can have all the resources they need for their projects to be produced. However, the government may have enough reasons why it ended the way it was. It was also just fortunate for others who have found companies or private agencies which offers job creation.

            The second definition presented in the job creation influenced by legislation and monetary policy. A change to monetary policies, tax incentives and changes in regulations effects employment. The government needs tax revenues and walks a fine line trying to measure the complicated causal effects of their actions. Good intentions can stray an economy as the actors in the theatre of the economy react to a multitude of conditions at once. These rules and regulations are what established businesses love or hate. The more often there are major changes to tax structure and regulation, the more often there are major movements in rates of employment, either job creation or job destruction. Too many changes can hurt an economy and too little can damage an economy. Again, it is a balancing act that is becoming more and more difficult with the existence of special interest lobbyists, non-profit Political Action Committees with noble concerns over social issues and the environment. Government actions do matter

            I guess this kind of definition is a very big one since every possibility is counted. The people here should be very cautious in their action in order for them to maintain the balance that they are protecting.

            The third one is the job creation using a market share approach.  Job creation can occur when the unemployed become ambitious and start their own business in easy entry industries and markets. This is usually accomplished when an unemployed person turns into an entrepreneur and goes into business to compete in the industry they were familiar with for many years. These new businesses' create jobs simply by innovating and implementing the ideas that were ignored when they were employed. Most small businesses that begin come to the rude awakening that "it's not that easy" but survivors tend to change entire industries that were stuck in operating the "same old way" for years. This also leads to lower prices, stable wages, higher revenues and growth for services in that industry.

            This kind of approach is most likely the common one. I think most entrepreneurs especially those who just have started are given this type of job creation since it is also a convenient one. It is also a type of approach where you could work independently and see if your ways are effective. It can also show what improvements you could have and other matters.

            The fourth one is job creation through ideas: Innovate, create, invent, and invest. The most difficult but the most effective way to create long-term employment is to create new industries. It truly is the hardest way but the best way to continually grow an economy that can support its citizens with employment. In the 1990's the computer desk-top industry exploded along with the internet industry. It was a time of high prices for technology, confusion in this new young technology industry and lots of good paying jobs. It is possible to see new industries surface suddenly as we maintain the free markets environment and investment becomes more transparent and accessible to everyone.

            As what was mentioned, it is the hardest yet the best way. It would really bring out the best of an entrepreneur since it requires good skills and knowledge about what they are trying to do. This also implies the requirements of being an entrepreneur which is to have whole-brained since it needs a lot of thinking, being a risk-taker since it would be a high risk, and being efficient since it has to be in an orderly manner. However, if all of these can be overcome, then good results may be coming in your way.

But apart from the presented ideas of job creation, there is also other way which was discussed in the class. It is the technology ventures which consist of human resources, financial resources, environment, and laws. For the human resources, it involves the Academes, the Research and Development Centres, and many others. In environment, it has IT Parks, Science Parks, Incubation Centres which could be a good starting point for technopreneurs, Infrastructures, and others. The financial resources are the investors and other agencies which could fund the business plans and other projects. And lastly are the laws and policies which are implemented.

Indeed, technopreneurship is a hard thing to do since it requires too much in a person. But then all of these will be all worth it if we would be aiming for excellence. After all, technopreneurship may be the most difficult one but the best way to be able to gain success.

3 Idiots (Reflection)

3 Idiots

The movie, 3 idiots, depicts the life of a person, especially for those students struggling to go through college. It is a very inspiring and realistic movie that every person who’s watching would definitely be moved. Truth to be told, after watching the movie, countless thoughts were running through my mind. It’s as if a box full of sparkly things was opened before my eyes. Moreover, it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it even made me realize things that usually go unnoticed. Indeed, it is a great movie, one of the best movies in fact.

Furthermore, the characters in the movie are something a person could relate to. May it be Farhan Qureshi, Raju Rastogi, or Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad, each one of them plays a very important role in making it a successful one. To know them even more, the review for each character are shown below.

Farhan Qureshi

            In the movie, 3 Idiots, Farhan Qureshi is someone who is captivated in the world of lenses. His passion is to capture precious moments – for humans and for wildlife. He loves photography so much that he wants to be an assistant of a famous photographer in Brazil. However, those dreams were somehow impossible for him. It is because he is also someone who follows his father’s wishes. Instead of grabbing the opportunity to be what he wants to be, he chose to comply to his father’s demand, which is to become an engineer.

            Hiding his feeling of disappointment, he attended the Imperial College of Engineering half-heartedly. There, he met aspiring engineers who are trying their best to be successful. He also met two people which later became his best friends, and even labelled as 3 idiots. With them, he experienced all the foolishness he never thought he could do. But this acts taught him a lot of lessons, lessons which made a great impact in his life.

His life in college is not that easy. For the reason that they always get in trouble, they are also hot in the eye of their director and often call them idiots. And just because they always hang out with their friend, Rancho, their director always asked them to stay away from him. But then, Farhan couldn’t do it because his friend is one of his precious friends and that is the reason why he can’t leave him. He knows too well that being around with Rancho can’t bring him down. Rancho is his inspiration and he respects him a lot. Even though the news reached his father, which got Mr. Qureshi very furious, he never left them.

Not long after, his friends knew that he desires photography. With them knowing this, they encouraged him to pursue his desired career. However, Farhan knew that he could not bring himself to chase his dreams because of the fear to his father. But as they continue to struggle for their lives, had ups and downs, he realized the important things in life. Farhan realized that fear was ahead of him. He began to understand that doing things without passion will not do any good; instead, it will make things worse and would only cause depression. And with this new confidence, he had also gained the courage to talk to his father about his career.

Though he had doubts about it, Farhan dared to defy his father. Tangled in the heated argument, he stood firm on what he believed. Feelings were pouring as he tried to defend his decision. And finally, his father gave in to his decision and agreed to support him in all the things that he needed. The little step he took, the courage he built, and the confidence he gained, made him overcome fear and face the reality. And by overcoming fear, he had truly found his happiness. Despite of everything he had been through, he was able to pursue his passion and became someone who he wanted to be.

            Through this, I can roughly say that my life can be compared to Farhan. Not minding what I want just to fulfil what the elders, or should I say, my parents wanted for me. Well, it’s not like they’re totally controlling my life. I still have my own choice, and sometimes, they still waits for my decision before taking into action. Basically, it’s just that, most of my actions were based from what they were saying. What does a girl like me can do? I’m inside their wall, dependent to them in terms of needs, still studying and don’t have a job. Of course, I have to obey them, not just for respect but also an obligation as a daughter. In the story, Farhan’s parents bought him what he needed, even beyond what he needed. In exchange, he has to finish the degree. My parents too, treat me like that. They sometimes bought me things even without me asking. And so, I have to do my responsibility as a student and a daughter. Well, even without them telling me, I have to do it as exchange for everything they did for me.

It was also shown in the movie that, Farhan’s future was decided by his parents, specifically his father. He badly wants him to be an engineer despite the fact that he loves photography. He obeyed his father, but in the end, he chose his passion. That kind of thing also happened to me. When I was about to go in college, I can’t decide properly what to choose, though I already told them that there is a certain course I’d like to study. In the end, my father told me to take a certain course, which I certainly obeyed. While I was starting to enjoy what I have chosen, they asked me to change course. But then, I declined their offer and continued studying on what they have chosen for me at the first place. And I think, that’s one thing that makes the difference between Farhan’s life and mine. At the end, he didn’t regret his decision, and I also didn’t regret mine. Cause no matter what happens, the parents are always there to support on what their child wants for their future.

Raju Rastogi

            In the movie, Raju Rastogi is someone who had strong beliefs in religious things. He tends to pray every now and then, wishing for things to go accordingly. As the story progress, it was revealed that Raju was carrying a heavy burden. Due to his family’s social status, he had to pursue being an engineer to raise his family’s wealth and for them to be able to get out of poverty. He was the only hope of their family. However, his life in Imperial College of Engineering was not easy for him since he experienced the different faces of life which leads him into life and death experience.

            Together with his close friends, Rancho and Farhan, Raju often gets into trouble. Being labelled as 3 idiots by their director, they still take things in their own way. But among the three, Raju seemed to be the weakest one, in terms of being strong willed. For the reason that their director told them to leave Rancho alone, and even send a letter to his parents, Raju decided to take the advice and avoided them. But then, in the end, it turned out that his friends are the only ones who could help him in his problems, and could encourage him in their own little way. He realized, they were his important friends and immediately reunited to them. But that doesn’t end his struggle.

            Due to the fact that they are always getting trouble, a certain situation cornered him which led him into confusion. He was told to choose if who should be rusticated, him or his friend, Rancho. Not wanting to let his family down, or betray his precious friend, Raju decided to jump off the building. He was in a state of comatose for two months which made his family and friends to be worried. But then, they never gave up and tried their best to wake him up, and successfully, he did.

            In those two months, Raju realized the importance of his life, family, and friends. He was able to understand that his weakness was his fear: fear of the responsibilities, and fear of what his future may bring. And from that incident, he was able to stand again and gained new confidence to survive life. He stopped depending on his beliefs and strived hard. In the end, he was able to find a job and live a wonderful life with his wife.

            There may be times where I experienced some things same as Raju, but still, committing suicide, didn’t and never ever did cross my mind. I believe committing suicide adds to the problem, not solving any problem. Lucky for Raju, he was immediately rescued and saved his life. It even solved his problem regarding the rustication. However, not all people are as lucky as him. If a person commits suicide, the people left behind will be the one to suffer the loss. There are people out there who are struggling and fighting for their dear lives, but others just waste the God given life. Besides, family and friends are there to listen, understand, and help.

But the good thing about the character of Raju is that he learned from his mistake. He stood up, once again, to face his fears and overcome whatever may come to his way. He learns to value his life even more. And I think that’s one thing that people should learn and do. As for me, I definitely know the feeling of falling down and standing once again. It’s a great feeling, and you know for yourself that next time you’ll do even better. Cause no matter what life may bring, the most important thing is to keep moving on and live life. After all, life is too short to have no fun yet too precious to waste.

Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad

            The movie, 3 idiots, would not be complete without the most important character, Rancho. Rancho or Phunsukh Wangdu, his real name, is a man of wisdom and inspiration. He is someone who would help those who were helpless, encourage that who are feeling down, enlighten those who were confused, and never leaves his friend especially in times of trouble, a good listener, and a great adviser. Indeed a wonderful man.

            Rancho is someone who does things in his own special way. Even if it means defying their director, being humiliated in class, or stuck in a difficult situation, he never fails to get out of the mess while giving important lessons to be learned. Almost everything he does and says, even if it may seem foolish, has a sense. He makes people realize and understand things thoroughly. He is someone you would glad being around with.

            Another thing that is admirable for this character is the passion in studying. It was learned at the latter part of the movie that he was an orphan, secretly attending school and such, yet he still managed to gain knowledge. He love studying so much that he will do everything just to learn, even if everything means studying in Imperial College of Engineering bearing other people’s name. But why would it matter? He may not be carrying his own name, yet he will always carry the knowledge that he had. Wherein that knowledge brought him to what he was years after. This thought only shows that all material things could be stolen from people yet the knowledge would be yours alone and no one could ever snatch it away from you.

            It was also shown in the movie how Rancho cherish his friends especially those who are dearest to him, Farhan and Raju. Since they were labelled as 3 idiots, with him as the leader, his two other friends would always get in trouble. But no matter what happened, no matter his friend turns his back on him, no matter if he got scolded by the parents of his friends, he would never leave them and would always be there in times of trouble. He loves his friends too much that he would help them see what’s right, how reality works, how important it is to consider one’s self and follow what the heart desires. He encouraged them to overcome their fears and face the future with chins held high. He taught them that passion would make everything put into place, and that burdens won’t make a person become stronger, instead they become weak. His words were encouraging enough which earned him great respect from his friends. He taught them everything they could learn from life. Most importantly, he taught them the most encouraging words – pursue excellence, and success will pursue you.

            Rancho is a good friend not only to his close friends, but also to others. Like MM or millimetre, he gave him money to buy uniform and attend school, and later on, when he had his own school, he invited him to go to his school and become centimetre, better yet kilometre. For the student who committed suicide, he helped him finish his project only to find him hanging himself. The incident caused Rancho’s doubts in the school system and believed that it is not a suicide, but a murder. For the daughter of their director, Pia, he immediately noticed how materialistic her fiancé was. He showed her a precise example of his point and gave her an advice which is to run away. However, that incident was followed one after another which made their feelings for each other to grow and develop. And even if they were away from each other for how many years, their love for each other didn’t end. The love became their link and that’s what made them reunite with each other. I guess that’s how love really works.

            On the latter part of the movie, it was shown that after their graduation, he started to live a new life, bearing his real name Phunsukh Wangdu. He became a scientist with 400 patents. Built a school full of technologies and teach students, being chased by Japanese investors and even the person who always challenge him when they’re still in college. All in all, his success is beyond comparison. His life shows that in life, passion, perseverance, strong will, and trust in one’s self are needed to survive the struggles and be excellent. Indeed, life can be measured on how a person handles it.

            If a person like Phunsukh Wangdu existed in this world, I would be his number one fan. Truth to be told, I want to be like him, knowing what to do and say in certain situations, full of wisdom and enlightenments. His words are like can openers and would make you realize that he is definitely right. His actions could make you think that, not everything is taught in school, instead, it is just around us. His foolish acts could sometimes lead into something great which could teach people that we are just humans, and acting foolishness is not that stupid, better yet you could learn from it. His love for his friends could make you love your friends even more. His passion in studying makes you think that working with passion makes work less difficult. His chant, all is well, could comfort you in several ways and could even create a positive thinking.

            With all of those, it is not difficult to love his character. He is close to perfect that there is nothing that I can compare myself with him. I totally admire his character. Not to mention, I learned a lot from him, and that is, I should be aware of my fears and should gain courage to overcome them. I need not to make my life difficult, but make it easy for me to be able to handle it well. Things may go wrong but with confidence and trust in myself, I would be able to go through them. Lastly, the world is a vast place, I should not let myself drown in my miseries, but enjoy the happiness and joy that life could bring.

Which one would you choose?

            The three (3) characters in the movie had different personalities which imparts different lessons to be learned most especially, the main character. It was obvious to everyone that he held a great character that can greatly influence everyone. And because of it, everyone wanted to be like him, even me. Who wouldn’t want it? Even though he lived a challenging life, he still managed to be excellent. He is definitely someone I could look up to. However, he would always remain as someone I admire. His character could never be the one I could refer myself to.

            Now who would I choose? If I were to choose among the three characters on how my life portrays, I think it would be Farhan. How I really wish it was Rancho, but then I knew for myself that it was totally not. Now why Farhan? I’ve already mentioned above how Farhan’s life describes mine. From not doing anything to defy others wishes, to the fear of disappointing others, down to making own decisions. Yes indeed, it was very much like mine. It may sound a little harsh, but I think it is not, if you are looking at the brighter side.  

            I also chose him, for the reason that his progress in life is something I can see in mine too. I used to be a shy girl, just listening to others, sitting in a corner and waiting to what may happen. But later on, as time pass by, as I started to grow up, gained great friends and experienced exceptional circumstances, I became someone I didn’t know I could be. Though some part of me remained, I know I changed. I could not fathom how it actually happened, and what triggered me, but still, I’m glad it did. Just like the Farhan in the movie, from a typical guy, he turned into someone who could express himself, had enough confidence and being able to defend himself. I too, gained confidence and became somebody.

            It was also shown in the movie how Farhan pursued his passion and became successful. And those great things happened after overcoming his fear. For mine too, I could not say I had overcome my fears but I believe that one day, I would be able too. I just have to be brave and trust myself. And no matter what happens, I should not be afraid to try something new. Smile when I’m sad, love what I’ve got, and remember what I had. I should learn from my mistakes but never regret. People could change; things go wrong but, no worries, because life goes on.

What are the factors that contributed to the success and failure of Steve Jobs as a technopreneur?

Technopreneurs are entrepreneurs who are into core businesses involving technology-based industries. They are the ones who make use of the technologies to come out with new or innovative products through a process of commercialization, the cycle of introducing a new product or production method to the market. The businesses are generally marked with high growth potential and requires high leverage of knowledge and intellectual property

            For this reason, Potential Technopreneurs must be equipped with both technical and business skills. Technical skills for having the capabilities to design, set-up, operate, and correct malfunctions involving the application of machine or technological systems, and business skills for having the wisdom to know what to do, when to do it, what to say, and have control over the delivery of the statements. To become a successful technopreneur, a person must be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to whatever comes in the way.

            Steve Jobs, was one of the most successful technopreneur in the world being labelled as American businessman, designer, and inventor. He was best known for being the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc., the largest publicly traded company in the world as well as the largest technology company in the world. Through Apple, Jobs was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution for his influential career in the computer and consumer electronics field. Indeed, the success of this man was beyond comparison. However, behind every success is a struggle.

            In his early days, Jobs was just an average man who started his career from scratch together with his co-founder, Steve Wozniak. He seemed to be interested with the little computer invented by Wozniak, and with that, he started to get involved with it. In a period of time, Jobs and Wozniak was able to design a “blue-box” which generates the necessary tone to manipulate the telephone lines which could allow free long-distance calls. Since it was illegal, they were almost caught, but fortunately, technologies in those times were not totally known. Having been drawn to technology like a magnet, Jobs continued in pursuing his career. He began to attend meetings, and even changed his appearance, and eventually formed their own business called Apple Computer Company.

            The Apple Computer Company was the stepping stone of Jobs for larger opportunities. Through their invention, they received funding until it became a large company. From then, the success of Jobs continued to pour. He was able to build a large company, recruited a new CEO, and made their company renowned.

            While Jobs became a persuasive and charismatic director for Apple, his employees from that time described him as an erratic and temperamental manager. The disappointing sales caused Jobs working relationship with his members a struggle. And for this reason, Jobs was eventually fired from Apple.

            Without him realizing, he almost reached the top, but with just a snap, he almost lose everything. After being fired from Apple, he started from scratch again, by then; he eventually made his way to the top again. Jobs road to success was full of ups and downs. He once became successful, but eventually failed. And from that failure, he attained his success.

When he first started, several factors contribute to his first success. He first learned how to create computers, in which, would require technical skills such as analyzing the needs and product requirements to create a design, controlling the operations of equipments or systems, and writing computer programs for various purposes. However, Jobs didn’t do all the work in technical field; in fact, he was great in dealing business to others.

Jobs almost got what it takes to be a business man. He took the role of the leader, full of passion in making their product be renowned to all. He organized his team well, even grouping them into different teams. He took responsibility and ownership over the company. And most of all, he could communicate effectively which droves the people to take a look at their products. Jobs had the ability to speak clearly, persuasively, and forcefully in front of the audience. He was confident and could speak effectively.

Jobs could be called a perfect leader, but he was missing something. He got full of himself and left his comrades hanging. He forced them to do their work even though they already worked hard. He divided his team, resulting into war between the members of the company. He wanted everything to work within his hands. But because of this, everything was ruined. He got fired from his company and went back to zero.

Jobs’ attitude caused him his downfall. He got a taste of his own medicine and went through the darkest times of his life. One moment he’s on top, another moment he’s down. And because of this, he started to stand again. He kept his hopes up and became positive with what he was going to do. However, it didn’t became that successful but still struggled until he found someone who helped him in his new company. He was able to release the first and second generation, until his company was acquired by Apple. And with that, Jobs was back in Apple, the company he co-founded.

He went back to Apple Company had another chance to bring back what once was his. Jobs had new goals and had enough of what he had done from the past. And under his guidance, the company increased sales significantly which proves his brilliance.

Indeed, Jobs career life was a remarkable one. He worked his way to the top, strived hard, and attained temporary success, but because of carelessness and self-centred, he fell down. But those moments weren’t enough to pull him down and made him unable to stand again. Instead, he made his failures as his lessons, and stood up for new beginnings. He realized he needed those awful medicines to be cured. He didn’t take his failure as a hindrance. Jobs took another step despite his hardships. And those things made him what he was. After everything he’d been through, he was able to gain new confidence to reach the success he wanted which lasted until his last breath.

How do you see yourself as a technopreneur?

            Being a technopreneur means being brilliant both on technical skills and business skills. Technical skills requires the ability to design, and set up applications of machine, on the other hand, business skill is a skill which requires speaking effectively and convincing others to deal with your business. These two skills should be balanced to become an effective and successful technopreneur. If the other one was greater than the other, no one knows what struggles may come.

            As for myself, based from the reality, I couldn’t say that I am good in both areas. I’m really not that type of person who would dig deeper in technical areas, and not also that type to communicate effectively to others. I may be an Information Technology Student but I don’t have enough knowledge and abilities needed to accomplish mathematical, engineering, or computer-related duties. Well, maybe I could do some for computer-related but not that enough.

            For this reason, it is quite difficult for me to see myself as a technopreneur, a few years from now. Maybe I could learn how to be one, but I couldn’t compromise myself to be one. This may be called self-downgrading, but still, it can be called as being true to myself. I can say these kinds of things because, so far, I haven’t seen myself do things which could match up as a technopreneur. I still don’t have a proof to myself that I would be able to do it. But this doesn’t mean, I can’t do anything, it’s just that, I have different plans which are quite far from being a technopreneur.

            At any rate, thinking of being a technopreneur would be magnificent.  It’s like, having the same path to those successful technopreneurs who invented computers which are widely used today. And due to the fact that our modern generation revolves around technology, it would be quite easy for technopreneurs to handle the business and make the company a renowned one. Aside from that, technologies would continue to develop and the legacy will continue until the next generation. If I would be one of them, I would gladly take part of the opportunity to make the world see the beauty that technology brought us.           

            If I could be one of the technopreneurs, I think I would be able to help in developing the innovation in the world. With all the technology we have, I could come up with something that would be worthy enough to be part of world of technology. Even so, I could start by working into companies which could be a stepping stone for my success. 

            But as I think deeply about it, being a technopreneur is not that far, though it’s not that near. It just seemed like, a person just have to acquire skills which would basically help in succeeding into anything.

            According to lifehack.org, success is not just about positive attitude, the Law of Attraction, or The Secret. Success takes action, and taking good and appropriate action take skills. These skills are learned in school, in job, and the general life experience. First is public speaking. Public speaking is the ability to speak clearly and persuasively. Being able to speak effectively means you can sell anything, not only products but also ideas. As for me, I had few experiences in talking in front a crowd; however, I haven’t done any public speaking which would require me to convince other people. I guess I don’t have that aura or that charisma since I used to be a shy person. But if it’s for the sake of business, and my future, I’d be willing to risk it all.

            Second would be writing. Writing well offers many of the same advantage that speaking well offers. Learning to write well involves not just mastery of grammar but the development of the ability to organize one’s thoughts into a coherent form and target it to an audience in the most effective way possible. Well, for this matter, I could say that I have capabilities in writing. I guess I could trust myself in this matter. The third one is Self-Management.Strong organizational skills, effective productivity habits, and a strong sense of discipline are needed to keep you on track. For this one, I couldn’t actually trust since there are several cases where I lack self-discipline and that’s something I had to work on. Next is Networking, a large network, carefully cultivated, ties one into not just a body of people but a body of relationships, and those relationships are more than just the sum of their parts. This would mean that I have to go and see the world to meet all kinds of people.

            In the tips, it was stated that Critical thinking follows, Decision-Making, Math, Research, Relaxation, and basic Accounting. I do believe that critical thinking is a talent, in which I just had a few. Though for the decision-making, I always ways the options to what would be a good choice. For Math, I kind of like it but sort of hate it. Research, of course is important, in all aspects since this is a way of acquiring knowledge and information. But from all these tips, I haven’t realized that relaxing could be one of them.

            As stated, stress will not only kill you, it leads to poor decision-making, poor thinking, and poor socialization. So be failing to relax, knocks out at least three of the skills in the list – and really more. Plus, working yourself to death in order to keep up, and not having any time to enjoy the fruits of your work, isn’t really “success”. It’s obsession. Being able to face even the most pressing crises with your wits about you and in the most productive way is possibly the most important thing on this list. In which, I agree to this statement. Stress could be a traitor and could bring the people down. I guess, this is also the factor which caused the failure of Steve Jobs. Because you see, it was stated in Wikipedia.com that Jobs is disappointed with the sales which drove him in forcing his employees to work harder, without resting. And because of his actions, his employees see him for someone who treats others badly, which caused him a rotten attitude, plus his downfall. So I guess, stress could also be the root of all evil so it would be much better to rest even just for a little while.

            I guess these skill tips are not that bad for encouraging people who doubt their skills and capabilities. And I believe that, I may not be the best technopreneur which could match up with the best ones, but I could be one in my own little, and simple way.

Would you take the same career path that Steve Jobs took? Why or why not?

            Steve Jobs was an American businessman, designer, and inventor. He had known for being the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc., the largest publicly traded company in the world as well as the largest technology company in the world. Jobs was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution for his influential career in the computer and consumer electronics field. Because of this, he was very much admired by most people. Indeed, he was a great man.

            Now the question is, would you take the same career path as Steve Jobs took? Well, truth to be told, Steve Jobs did an excellent job in his company. His success was beyond comparison. However, if the question about career talks about how Jobs moulded his company, and how he invented amazing gadgets, then I would say yes. It’s not like it would actually happen. Yes, I know, a girl like me could never ever do something like that. I haven’t thought of myself involving with those stuffs. Maybe because, in reality I’m more of a consumer than an inventor. Besides, I don’t have those amazing skills and charismatic aura that could lure investors and business man. But the thought of doing what he had done would be the greatest thing that I have ever done in my entire life. Just the thought of people appreciating what you had done means a lot, how much more would it be if it was a thing, everyone adored, and if it was something everyone would want to have. Yes, I would definitely take the same path.

            Another thing is that, Jobs contributed a great part in the technology and in the modern world. Even though he’s now on the other side of the world, people will continue remembering him as man who changed the world. He was also a man who earned billions of money. And yes, that would be very much amazing. If contributing at a community makes them remember you, if donating something makes them know you, how much more if you could contribute in the world’s innovation. The success of technology makes people realize that there’s more to it.  It would be very much amazing to let the people see what beauty technology brought us. It would be a pleasant feeling, to teach younger generations about how the modern century works. Having the same career path as Jobs is something anyone would want, something anyone desired. He may not be the greatest person, not the richest person, but his works proved who he really was.

            Moreover, if the question about the career path talks about how Steve Jobs attained his success, then I would also say yes. Just like average people, Jobs wasn’t that lucky enough to immediately reach the top. Yes, when he first tried it, he had minor struggles but then he had been outstanding. In a period of time, he had been able to establish a company. But fate should teach him lesson that’s why, due to some circumstances, he had a fall down. It was like; a wave washed away the newly built sand castle. It was his greatest failure which caused his life to turn upside down.

            But then, no one can blame him. Jobs was just a human being, had flaws and experienced the ups and downs of life. He was blinded with power that he forgot what he had. But what makes him a man is that he had unwanted things, which later on, he realized was important. But even so, he continued to struggle despite the fact that what he had experienced could cause depression and embarrassment. Instead of sulking, and blaming himself, he gradually started a new beginning. What’s best about him is that, he didn’t lose hope, and gained more confidence from those mistakes. He acted like nothing happened. He didn’t make it affect his life. He took the failure as an awful medicine which he realized; he had to take in, for him to take a bigger step. He even thought to himself that his failure was the best thing that ever happened to him and he was thankful of it.

            The path where Steve Jobs took was the path to the new beginning from a horrible ending. And that would be the path I would also like to follow. Humans always had imperfections which lead to complications. However, those ups and downs are what keep them stronger. Those struggles help them see who they really are. Those failures lead them to a greater success.  Dark sides will always have a bright side.

            I, myself, had experience ups and downs, had my success and failures not only in academics but also in several things. I had experienced embarrassments and had memories which I would want to forget. Sometimes, I would wish for a time machine for me to patch things up. But as I grow up, I realized, those experiences, those memories, are meant to happen. It happened for a reason. It happened because it would teach me important lessons.

            This kind of  path where Jobs took is the most possible path I could follow, based from the reality and not just certain imagination. I would want to be like him, where he was just a nobody, turned into somebody, had a major breakdown, but eventually stand on his feet. I know I’m still on the stage where I had to work hard. Despite of the struggles, I had to keep moving on if I want reach the end. I guess the path for me is still blurry, but I know there are signs which would guide me to be on the right track. And just like Jobs, I would stand on my own and accept that failures in life are the greatest things that could ever happen.

            After all, everything happens for a reason. People must learn from mistakes but should never regret it. Nothing is constant that’s why people change, things might go wrong, but still, whatever happens, life goes on.

Job and Process Status

The diagram shows how the operating system controls the execution of processes. It starts on the Hold State wherein the Job is accepted and placed on the queue. When the Job moves to Ready State, it means that the Job is waiting for the CPU. It is also the process the Job is queuing and preparing to execute when given the opportunity. And when the Job is selected, it is now in the state of Running State. In that state, it’s the process where Job is currently being executed. But then, it is not certain that the Job in the Running State would directly go to Finish. Since there are possibilities of interruptions and the unavailability of resources, the Job would be placed in the waiting queue. The CPU would still continue accepting Jobs from the Ready State and those Jobs in the waiting queue would remain in that state until the CPU is ready to execute those Jobs again. After giving signals that the Jobs in the Waiting queue are ready to be processed again, those Jobs would be moved to the Ready State and be executed on the Running State. If nothing else went wrong, the Jobs would be placed in finished indicating that the Jobs were processed successfully.

With these state processes it would be totally impossible of having transition between READY to WAITING and from WAITING to RUNNING.  There are no transitions between Ready and Waiting since the Job in the Ready State would always be placed in the Running State, and after detecting some interruptions or page faults, that would only be the time that the Job would be placed in Waiting State. Another thing is that, the CPU cannot detect interrupts in the Ready State since it is still preparing to be executed.

Between the states from Waiting to Running, it is also not possible to have transition since the Jobs to be executed should be preparing at the Ready State. Besides, it is still necessary for the Jobs in the Waiting queue to send signals for the Jobs to continue processing. And if the Jobs would be placed in the Ready queue, the Jobs could be executed once again.

Best fit memory allocation is the smallest partition fitting the requirements which makes the best use of memory space.  The illustration above shows the method of best fit memory allocation. In best fit, each job should find the smallest memory block into which the job will fit.

The first column is the memory divided into five blocks using fixed partition.

On the second column:

            Job 1 has 100k memory size, so it has to be allocated in a block that is not too small, and not too large than the memory size. Block 1 has 50k, so it is impossible to fit. Block 2 has 200k, though the memory size of Job 1 could fit, still it is too large. Block 3 has 70k, smaller than the memory size of Job 1. Block 4 has 115k, it is perfect for the memory size Job 1, but then, Job 1 must take a look at the remaining block just to be sure that the Block 4 is the best fit. Lastly, Block 5 has 15k, also smaller than the memory size of Job 1. With these, it is assumed that Block 4 with 115k memory size is the best fit for Job 1 which has 100k memory size.

            Job 2 has 5k memory size. With the sizes of the memory in each block, it can be seen that Job 2 could fit in any block except for Block 4 since Job 1 is allocated in this block. But then, the sizes of the memory of Block 1, 2, and 3 are too large for Job 2. And so, it is assumed that Block 5 with 15k memory size is the best fit for Job 2 which has 5k memory size.

            Job 3 has 35k memory size. The remaining blocks that have to be allocated are blocks 1, 2 and 3. These blocks have big enough memory size but then Block 2 and Block 3 are too large for Job 3. With these, Job 3 which has 35k memory size is allocated at Block 1 with 50k memory size.

            Job 4 has 15k memory size. Now, the remaining blocks are Block 2, and Block 3. And in these two blocks, Block 3 has smaller memory size, which means Block 3 with 70k memory size is the best fit for Job 4 which has 15k memory size.

            Job 5 has 23 k memory size, and the only block which has to be allocated is Block 2. So Job 5 with 23k memory size is allocated at Block 2 which has 200k memory size.

On the third column:

            Job 3 with 35k memory size has 2 turnarounds, which means it would still remain in Block 1. Job 5 with 23k memory size still has to remain in Block 2 since it has 2 turnarounds.

Job 4 has ended and it was replace by Job 7 with 25k memory size. Job 2 also ended and was replaced by Job 6 with 6k memory size.   

On the fourth column:

            Job 3 already ended, and so Block 1 is free and ready to be allocated by other jobs. Job 5 also ended and it was replaced by Job 9 with 88k memory size. Job 7 has also ended and was replaced by Job 8 with the memory of 100k. Job 6 also ends and Block 5 is also free and ready to be allocated. Job 8 was allocated at Block 3 since Block 2 is too large and the other blocks are too small. Same goes for Job 9, it was allocated at Block 2 since it would be the best fit for Job 9.

On the fifth column:

            Job 1 was finished on its third turnaround, and it was replaced by Job 10 with 100k memory size. Block 1 and Block 5 remained free and ready to be allocated. While Job 8, and Job 9 remained in their blocks since it is their second turnaround.

On the sixth column:

            Job 8 ended, so Block 3 is free. Job 9 still remained since it has to finish its last turnaround. Job 10 also remained. And the remaining blocks are free.

On the seventh column:

            Job 9 ended, and Block 2 is free. But still, Job 10 has to remain to finish its last turnaround.

On the eighth column:

            Job 10 finished its turnaround and all the blocks are free and ready to be allocated again.

First fit allocation method is the first partition fitting the requirements and faster in making allocations. The illustration above displays the method of first fit memory allocation. In first fit, the jobs should allocate the first free block in which their memory will fit even if it means leading to memory waste.

            Job 1 has 100k memory size. Since Block 1 has smaller memory size and Block 2 has enough memory, then Job 1 was allocated at Block 2. Next is Job 2 with 10k memory size. Block 1 and Block 2 has already been allocated with Job 1 and Job 2, therefore, Job 3 was allocated in Block 3 since it can hold the memory size of Job 3. Job 4 with 15k memory size has been allocated in Block 4 which has 115k memory size. Since the remaining block for the first turnaround has a memory of 15k, Job 5 could not fit on the said block. And so, Job 5 is on the waiting queue, and Job 6 was allocated in Block 5 since it only has 9k memory size.

On the third column:

            Job 5 replaced Job 2 in Block 1. Job 1 and Job 3 remained while Job 7 replaced Job 4 on Block 4. Job 6 finished its turnaround, and Block 5 is free.

           

On the fourth column:

            Job 5 still remained in Block 1 as well as Job 1 in Block 2. Job 3 already ended, and was immediately replaced with Job 8 with 55k memory size. Job 7 also ends and was replaced with Job 9 in Block 4. Still, Block 5 remained free.

On the fifth column:

            Job 5 finished the job and so, Block 1 is free. Job 1 was finished on its third turnaround, and it was replaced by Job 10 with 100k memory size. Block 5 remained free while Job 8 and Job 9 remained in their blocks since it is their second turnaround.

On the sixth column:

            Job 8 ended, so Block 3 is free. Job 9 still remained since it has to finish its last turnaround. Job 10 also remained. And the remaining blocks are free.

On the seventh column:

            Job 9 ended, and Block 4 is free. But still, Job 10 has to remain to finish its last turnaround.

On the eighth column:

            Job 10 finished its turnaround and all the blocks are free and ready to be allocated again.

 Worst fit allocation method allocates largest free available block to new job. The illustration above manifests the method of worst fit memory allocation. In worst fit, the jobs should allocate the largest available block, which is a total opposite of best fit.

The free blocks are Block 1 and Block 5, since Job 4 would not fit in Block 5, Job 4 allocated Block 1. Since the remaining block for the first turnaround has a memory of 15k, Job 5 could not fit on the said block. And so, Job 5 is on the waiting queue, and Job 6 was allocated in Block 5 since it only has 9k memory size.

On the third column:
